Increased public discussion has boosted
the boycott's popularity to the point where some cashiers politely
inform patrons that a certain branded product is actually Danone.
And the shopper often leaves the item behind.
However, overall levels of consumer compliance
with the boycott vary.
Many of those following the boycott have
difficulty determining which products -- branded under various names
-- are actually made by Danone. Some shoppers even carry a list.
Others who support the workers' cause in
principle are not ready to change their habits. These consumers
confess to not strictly following the boycott. Often they make the
effort to buy a competitive product when it is easily available,
but if they do not see an alternative on the supermarket shelf,
they still buy Danone.
