Just Hanging Out?

Nothing like passing time in a friendly place. A nice ambience. Something a bit different. Here's a few places we like...

Zero de Conduite

Bar 6ème
M° Saint-Germain-des-Prés
14, rue Jacob
Tél. : 01 46 34 26 35
Tuesday - Sunday 18H-1H

Now you can listen to ParisTempo's new musical selections online right here...

A welcoming comfortable kind of place (for maximum enjoyment, avoid the crowd on Saturday) that's not too expensive but still a bit original. Behind a normal bar-like exterior, you will find something slightly different. Enjoy the cartoons and don't be surprised to get a drink served in a baby's bottle.

L'Ogre de Barbarie

Restaurant-spectacle 12ème
M° Reuilly-Diderot
13, rue Claude Tillier
Tél. : 01 43 70 57 92
Hor. : Mar-Sam 12H-14H30, dîner-spectacle 20H15
(Réservation Absolutely NECESSARY)

This place seems like nothing special at first glance -- apart from the excellent dinner for such a fair price. But at 10pm this restaurant transforms itself into a café theatre worth the visit. Guided by Philippe, your master of ceremonies, you will be led through the looking glass to a fable-like world of magic and fairytales come to life for grown-ups. And you are invited to take part in the fun!!! Make reservations for a table near the stage.

Pur'Place

Bar, restaurant 11ème
M° Bastille
20, rue Daval
Tél. : 01 47 00 66 01
daily 16H-2H
HAPPY HOUR Mondays til 2230, and tuesadyas til 2130

Purple is more than just a color here. It is a place, an esprit, an electric ambience running on a current of Parisian house, funk and techno. Even if you're not into the music, the décor makes this place a truly "must see" -- psychelic forms on deep red velours -- and don't forget to visit the toilettes.

What more to say about this purple place? It's simply purple -- a purple place with psychedelic décor, cutting edge music, fantastic food and hallcinegoenic expositions.

You can check them out online

Oya Café

Café 5ème
M° Censier-Daubenton
22, rue Daubenton
Tél. : 01 47 07 59 59
Tuesday to Sunday 14H-24H

With the Mosque and related boutiques nearby, think North Africa This is an ideal place to chill for a bit between classes or late in the afternoon. Time to play a few classic board games like Monopoly, Scrabble or Pictionary -- all available here in French or English And if you don't know how to play, one of the regulars will be glad to tell you how.

La Fleche d'Or

102 bis rue de Bagnolet, 20ème
Métro: Alexandre Dumas / Gambetta
Tél: 01.43.72.04.23

La Fleche d'Or is a great old rail switching station turned bar restaurant that now features a whole range of music and a great Sunday brunch ... check out their schedule and the virtual Fleche d'Or...

Les Blues Heures

97, rue de championnet,19eme
Métro : Porte de Clignancourt
Tél : 01 42 57 30 66
Tuesday - Saturday 17h-2h (concerts Thursday - Saturday 21h)

This little place may not seem like a "destination", but if you want to check out a place where French rockers actually hang out to hear local bands playing some original music, Les Blues Heures should be on your list.

Downstairs from a typical cafe bar, is a decent sized salle de concert. And a pretty decent ambiance too.

Usually only around 20 FF to get in and 15 FF for a beer.

Pop IN

105, rue Amelot, 11éme.
Métro: St Sébastien Froissart
Tél: 01.48.05.56.11
Tuesday - Sunday 16h30 à 1h30

This bar, in the quartier d'Oberkampf, is a strong supporter of the independent scene. Check out the "soirées branchées" with no cover on the weekend.

If you are in the neighborhood, you should stop in, even if just to have one drink. Le Pop In has four different rooms, each with its own ambiance. There's the ground floor bar, where the locals chill and chat with the barman, a comfy lounge area one flight up with couches and armchairs where you can chat with each other, and a dancefloor where you can well you get the idea...

Beware of crowds on the weekend (oh, and if your French is good you might want to try this "Pop In Test")...

Tonnerre

101-103, rue Oberkampf, 11ème
Métro: Parmentier
Tél: 01.49.23.53.76
Daily 17h à 2h

Another decent place in the quartier d'Oberkampf to pass some time at the bar. The small size of the place (30 people is beginning to be a crowd) means there's quickly a sense of community here -- so be prepared to participate in the discussion even if you are a stranger. There's good music, beer at 15 FF and you might even make some new friends

Abracada Bar

123, av Jean Jaurès, 19 ème
Métro :Laumière
Tél: 01.42.03.18.04
Tuesday - Sunday 14 h à 2 h.

Here's another one of those out of the way (and we mean that most sincerely) places worth stopping by. Can't miss the colors at the angle of la rue de Crimée et de l'avenue Jean Jaurès.

The idea of L'Abracada bar is to have a space dedicated to artists and their performances. So never lacking for something interesting here. And beer's 15F, with no cover charge.

The current program is scène ouverte wednesdays (soirées "turbulences énergétiks"), Télé-Bocal on Thursday, théâtre, court-métrages (à venir avec les élèves de la Fémis), soirées à thème, concerts on Friday and Saturday.
